Coastal Maine Retreat

Along the Mid-Coast of Maine lies a beautiful little fishing village situated down a narrow peninsula near the town of Rockland.  A couple of city dwellers enjoy their summers in this charming little cottage.  The mix of styles throughout the house is mostly New England primitive with a touch of modern.  I relish the marriage of the sleek modern with the aged and distressed. The best examples are shown in the dining room where the Lord Yo slipcovered arm chairs designed by Philippe Starck balance effortlessly with a farmhouse table.  The painting above the living room sofa by Bruce Tolman expresses the nautical theme that is seen throughout the house.  A hutch in the hall displays some of the pieces that best depict the client's favorite pastimes.  The kitchen prominently utilizes an antique store counter as a very useful island for entertaining and informal eating.  To continue with the theme, an old coffee grinder, pendant light fixtures and many old signs are arranged as they might have been in the mid-19th C. when the house was built.
