Formal Living Room in the Country
You are drawn into this elegant living room of this country house through the foyer or hallway entrances on either side of the room. Almost immediately you feel a sense of balance and harmony upon entering. With the sofas flanking the fireplace while facing one another, we created an inviting area for entertaining. A modern oval metal and glass coffee table was chosen to "lighten up" the space and to allow the rug to show through. Fabric for the sofas is a woven linen with a small dot print that picks up the gold tones of the silk rug from India, as does the beautiful Chinese screen above the mantel. The needlepoint pillow adds pattern to this very neutral palette. Drapery fabric is a classic check that was chosen in silk to evoke a more formal feel to the room. We found this lovely mirror with a distressed frame to compliment the fabulous iron and crystal sconces from Italy. To accessorize the room, we chose a weatherworn urn that holds an orchid and sea fan coral along side a whimsical statue of a Tibetan monk. These pieces sit prominently on an antique console table placed opposite the fireplace.
